What have you been wearing on stage? Anything new you've been liking?
shallowhalo (@shallowhalo)
I’d describe my style as Poppetcore – kind of like a haunted doll meets Pirates of the Caribbean meets renaissance vibes. Lately, I’ve been mixing Halloween costume pieces with my everyday clothes. I’m currently obsessed with eye patches. At our last show, I wore a black satin eye patch with a rhinestone skull on it, and it's quickly become one of my favorite pieces. I paired it with a silver lamé tube dress, red tights from Los Angeles Apparel, and silver costume go-go boots that I modified with black electrical tape. It’s a fun look!

Do you collaborate with anyone? A stylist? A friend?
shallowhalo
My go-to stylist is Anja Cecilia (@anjaceciliashop). I’ve always loved her playful, eclectic style, and we’ve known each other for years, so she really gets my vibe. I also love collaborating with friends because they’re so talented and awesome. My good friend Serge has an amazing clothing line called Drink More Water (@drink.more.water.nyc), and I’m constantly wearing his pieces for shows too. It’s great to support friends and their creativity.

Do you make any special pieces?
shallowhalo
I learned how to make clothes when I went to Parsons, and even though I haven’t sewn anything in a while, I love DIY projects. One of my favorite pieces is my silver go-go boots that I modified with black electrical tape to look like stripes. I found my first pair at Goodwill – they’re just cheap costume boots, but they’re super comfortable. I love not having to be precious with them because they’re inexpensive and I'm always bopping around on stage. I wore the first pair until they fell apart and then bought a new pair to customize. It’s all about putting my own spin on things!

Where do you find stage clothes? Any fav shops?
shallowhalo
So, I used to work at Beacon's Closet, and I still get most of my clothes from there. I’m really into thrifting and vintage stuff – I usually wear my clothes until they fall apart. I walked by this store the other day in the Lower East Side and discovered Fussy (@fussy.ltd) and it's literally me in store form. I want to go back and buy everything. Stella Dallas is another favorite vintage store of mine. I’m all about bright tights, sheer tattered lace, and interesting textures and colors. And I love supporting local emerging designers. Retail Pharmacy, Cafe Forgot, and Park Mart (which is a community flea market in Brooklyn) are some of my go-tos. It's fun to find unique pieces from up-and-coming designers.

Where does your sense of style come from? Any special sources of inspiration?
shallowhalo
Well, my style icon is Agatha, my haunted porcelain doll. I know, sounds weird, but she’s got that 80s new romantic, goth vibe down. I’m inspired by Blondie, Cosey Fanni Tutti, Souxsie Sioux, and Strawberry Switchblade. I love 80's goth, even though I wouldn’t say my style is that goth. It's more like a mix – maybe cupcake goth, if that makes sense.
I like to mix and match and not take fashion too seriously. It's all about having fun and expressing yourself, right?
