Is this interview Clairo shade? – The twitter heads amongst us have probably caught wind of "the twink that fell through a skylight." Some have gone as far as to say he broke the glass ceiling. Elsewhere's Mia Arbucci gets the scoop on what happened on this hallowed Bushwick night. ↓↓↓
Kyle
Mia, you gotta tell me, is this interview Clairo shade?
Mia
I think it is. We’re here with the twink that fell through the skylight.
Kyle
Alleged twink.
Mia
You have probably already heard about the meme – if you haven't, just check Twitter. So basically it’s just a joke that started on Twitter, and it has spun out into this thing where you fell through a skylight?
Kyle
I did. I did fall a little bit. Fell through is maybe an exaggeration. It honestly was not that dramatic. A friend was throwing a birthday party and I pulled up to the rooftop. Pretty much immediately upon entering the rooftop, I kind of tripped over and my knee went through a skylight. I went to the hospital, got 43 stitches, and now we're all good.
Mia
Has anyone asked if you're okay?
Kyle
Yeah, several people have honestly – and that's what's been the best. I had my friends around that were able to take care of me and make sure the situation was good. Mainly just very grateful for them. I had a friend that was a nurse that was there to triage everything. She got me all patched up and on my way to the ER very quickly. But if you haven't asked me if I'm okay… If you've been using me for clout…
Mia
That’s the real tea. There's no video evidence of this? You should be milking it.
Kyle
People want video and I don't. I don't know what they wanna see. Like they just wanna see my open wounds and glass falling out my leg? This is what I'm talking about with the exaggeration and the dramatization of it all. I did not fall through a skylight. My knee punctured the skyligh. It wasn't that dramatic. I don't know – people like to run with things on Twitter I guess.
Mia
Can you also explain how all of this ties into the Clairo shade thing?
Kyle
Well, of course. We're all big Clairo fans. Clairo shade is just an abstract, nebulous concept at this point. Everything is Clairo shade because if you're not talking about Clairo, then what are you doing? You're shading her a little bit.
Kyle
So there was a cake made at the party that just said "Clairo Shade" on it because the night of this party was also Clairo's birthday evening. So, you know, us having a party and detracting attention from her is a little bit shady towards her…
And to Clairo, I'm so sorry that we took away your spotlight on that very special evening.
Mia
So now that we've gotten the informational stuff out of the way – I see that you're a DJ. Think you could let me know what songs you've been rinsing lately?
Kyle
I'm not going to give you songs. I'm going to give you some artists. I'm going to give you some things to check out. Just things that I've been into. First of all, I'm super, super stoked for EUSEXUA, the new FKA Twigs album. I was able to go to the preview party this past Monday and it was honestly so sick. I think sometimes those parties are like very much like, you know, sitting around drinking a beer and listening to the album. But people were dancing, people were up and just so joyous to be there. I think that's really the vibe of the album.
Mia
I love to see that, because I feel like post TikTok partying is so different. Everyone is really just like, on their phones and not throwing it back…
Kyle
Right! I'm also really into the Dawn Richard and Spencer Zahn stuff that's coming out. They did a collab record in 2022 and now they have a followup to that coming out soon. There’s a couple of singles out. Really beautiful ambient soundscapes. Dawn Richard is a great singer, a great vocalist.
Kyle
I've also been really loving the new Nala Sinephro stuff. I was able to go to that show at the St. Ann & The Holy Trinity Church. It's a beautiful space. Really excited for that album coming out soon. How many more I got? What is that, three?
Mia
I can't count. I have an art degree.
Kyle
There's this band that I'm friends with, Trophy Wife – they're in Bushwick. They're playing around all the time. Their album's coming out in October, I believe. If you're into Wednesday, kind of like noisy rock, alt country – I think that will be right up your alley. I'm super into it. Not just plugging because they're friends, the homies are actually talented. Like really good.
Kyle
Let me do one more. Oh, this great song just dropped from Ruthven and he's on Jai Paul's record label. It’s very similar to the whole Jai Paul vibe, so if you're into him at all definitely check it out. Popping out of the UK right now. Fabiano Palladino is also on that label and their record is another I've been into. So the whole Jai Paul universe is seeing some cool stuff.
Mia
What do you like normally spin when you DJ?
Kyle
It depends. So last night I just did this party with some friends. We were doing a lot of like disco and Italo disco stuff. A lot of pop stuff, a lot of like house-y dance-y stuff. Obviously this summer, Brat nonstop. Brat summer. I'll also say I'm really loving the Fcukers stuff. I know that there's a lot of discourse right now, but I think they're really cool and I'm really excited to see where they go.
Mia
And for everybody who is calling him the twink that fell through the skylight – I'm 5'9 in platform shoes right now. Can you see the top of our heads? This ain't a twink.
Kyle
Beating the twink allegations.
