The State of D.C.
by Josh
D.C. is an untapped sonic goldmine and Uncle Sam seems to know nothing of it… yet. The first gem beneath the glass is 10-year rap veteran Wifigawd. Hailing from uptown D.C., he’s best described as an unstoppable force slamming into an immovable object. Wifigawd’s “Outside” is a quick rebuttal to the idea that everything that glitters isn’t gold. Next in line is the northeast heavy hitter El Cousteau, whose look is as critical as he is acclaimed. His new spawn, “Dirty Harry,” grants a glimpse into the underworld of the nation's capital. Both Wifi and Cousteau’s projects have received heavy praise from soon-to-be legends Mike & Earl Sweatshirt. Over the summer, Mike brought out Cousteau at the third edition of his Young World Festival to perform. Let me just say, I believe every high-speed chase requires the track “Nitro.” This last one is a true diamond in the rough (I’m out of gold jokes). Swan Lingo chose the perfect name. His twist on R&B sounds like two Swans, necks intertwined, pillow talking. (Oh, and btw they mate for life, so you know it's real). Do yourself a favor and check his most recent song, “Our Lives.” Give D.C., my hometown, a listen this week –
Niontay, Earl Sweatshirt, El Cousteau, Mike - Real hiphop
fish narc, Swan Lingo, Lil Tracy, YAWNS - Once Was
Swan Lingo, Juice Jackal - Wish You Called
Swan Lingo, Spooky Black - Falling Down
The Khan, Black Kray, Wifigawd - Purpin
Wifigawd - Outside
El Cousteau - Nitro
